Activities
Weekly Meetings
Robotics Team meetings are held every Tuesday and Thursday nights at Xavier
High School from September through May. Students do homework until 6:00,
then have supper until 6:30, then work on robots until 8:30.
Summer STEM Camp
Each year we sponsor a STEM summer camp during July. In this camp some of
the typical activities would be:
- Program and operate Lego Mindstorm EV-3 robots
- Learn basic CAD (Computer Aided Design)
- Print CAD designed objects on 3D printers
- Operate FTC Team robots from the previous competition season
- Design and build simple devices like boats and cars to learn some of the principles of aerodynamics, energy loss, and chemical reactions
- Build rockets out of soda bottles, then launch and compete for altitude

Durham Fair
The Full Metal Falcons have a booth at the Durham Fair which
they share with Robotics Teams from other schools (mid to late September). In
this booth we allow children (and adults) to operate both the Lego EV-3 robots
and the previous years FTC competition robots. Also in this booth there may be
larger FRC (FIRST Robotics Challenge) robots. One other feature in this booth is
our annual raffle, a great chance to support us and maybe win a great prize!
Robot Demonstrations – At times we will perform demonstrations of our robots
at places such as libraries or schools to show off the Lego EV-3 robots, our
competition robots, or a unique outreach demonstration robot that was built
simply to show some of the things that robots can do.
